The Puget Sound region encompasses Puget Sound, the Puget Sound lowlands, and the surrounding area about west of the Cascade Range and east of the Olympic Mountains in the U.S. state of Washington. The state capital, Seattle, is situated between Elliot Bay and Lake Washington in the heart of Washington’s Puget Sound region. Bainbridge Island, in addition to the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, can be seen across Puget Sound. A nearby city, Bellevue, may be found to the east of Seattle, just over Lake Washington. Everett, Olympia, and Tacoma are also significant cities in the region because of their proximity to the Sound. Bremerton, Port Orchard, and Shelton are all located on the western shore of Puget Sound.

When it comes to estuaries in the United States, Puget Sound is second only to the Gulf of Mexico. The estuary of Puget Sound connects the Pacific Ocean with 19 interior river systems. There are tidal currents in the Sound, and the proportion of fresh to salt water in the water is always shifting. All of the precipitation in the Olympic and Cascade Mountains eventually makes its way to the marine waters of Puget Sound. From the northern border with Canada to the western Pacific Ocean, including Hood Canal and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, this region encompasses land and sea in the northwest corner of Washington State.

The Puget Sound region is home to a wide array of exciting tourist attractions and activities, from bustling cities to quiet islands, from rustic B&Bs to luxurious resorts. With all there is to see and do in Puget Sound, visitors will want to extend their vacation time.
