Sawyer Glacier

The fjord that ascends to Sawyer Glacier’s two sides is known as Tracy Arm. The fjord is not like a wide bay; rather, it has high granite walls that are home to several waterfalls. Sawyer Glacier, near the end of the Tracy Arm fjord, is more likely to be reached by smaller vessels. More and more icebergs, in blues so deep you could assume they’re made of glass, become visible as you approach Tracy Arm’s terminus. In June, it’s possible to spot seal pups on the larger floes, tightly guarded by their mothers. Tourists interested in a closer look at Sawyer Glacier can board one of the smaller excursion boats sent out by their cruise ship. In that area, you can get within half a mile of the South Sawyer Glacier, where you might see anywhere from one hundred to two hundred seals lounging on ice floes.
