Located in Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Tongass National Forest, Wrangell is a genuine working-class Alaskan island town. The Wrangell Museum in the Nolan Center is one of the newest museums in the Inside Passage region and offers a glimpse into Wrangell’s fascinating early history. Wrangell also has an excellent collection of totems, with more than a dozen displayed across the city.

Southeast Alaska’s protected waterways are home to numerous islands, bays, and ports that are teeming with species just waiting to be discovered. In addition to being a prime spot for wildlife charter boat expeditions, the rivers are also perfect for sea kayaking.

You may get up up and personal with a wide variety of wildlife, including glaciers, black and brown bears, eagles, sea lions, harbor seals, whales, salmon, and halibut, on one of the many tours offered in Wrangell. At the Anan Bear and Wildlife Observatory, visitors may watch brown and black bears chow down on salmon. Anan Creek, which is 30 miles to the mainland southeast of Wrangell, hosts one of the greatest runs of pink salmon anywhere in the Inside Passage.
