The Alexander Archipelago, located southeast of Alaska, is a chain of islands that stretches for more than 300 miles. About 1,100 islands make up the territory; they are the exposed summits of the Pacific coast’s buried mountains. The islands are isolated from the mainland by narrow waterways and fjords. As it makes its way northward among the islands, the northern portion of the Inside Passage is protected from the elements.
